Clinical trials, explained.

A Twin report may list clinical trials that could be relevant. Here's what a 'match' does — and doesn't — mean.

From match to enrolment

Five steps, each different

  1. 01

    A potential match

Based on your diagnosis and test results, a trial looks like it may be worth reviewing.

  2. 02

    Your oncologist reviews it

They consider whether it's appropriate to discuss with you.

  3. 03

    The trial team screens

Trials have many detailed criteria. Screening checks them properly.

  4. 04

    Eligibility is confirmed

Only the trial team can confirm that you meet the criteria.

  5. 05

    Enrolment

Depends on your consent, a place being available and the trial sponsor.

Questions to ask

If a trial is mentioned

  • What is the trial testing, and what would taking part involve?
  • Where is it, and how often would I need to travel?
  • How would it fit with my current treatment?
  • What are the possible benefits and risks for me?
